Thanks to cooperation, our civilization has achieved many successes. People have always hunted, fought, built and created together. By acting together, common goals can be achieved. It was thanks to the social contract that bans on smoking in public spaces, silence zones on trains, and even curfew were created. Now it's time to fight noise.
The dynamic development of technology makes life easier and allows you to solve problems much faster than previously possible. Thanks to technological innovations, it was possible to reduce carbon dioxide emissions or obtain renewable energy. However, we still have not eliminated the noise in our environment, which causes over 100 million Europeans to become ill every year. Our house and the space around it are our oasis of peace, a place of rest from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.Coming back after work or at the weekend, we expect peace and quiet in the immediate vicinity instead of listening to the sounds of our own or our neighbour's noisy petrol lawn mower.
Most of us start mowing our lawn in the late afternoon or weekend, while our relatives or neighbors would like to enjoy the undisturbed silence during this time. The commencement of maintenance works in the gardens is also often the opening of a new season of neighborly battles over excessive noise. However, this type of noise can be effectively reduced or eliminated, because it is the result of our behavior, habits and its emission depends only on us.
- We can talk about the negative effects of noise on the human body not only in terms of noise in the workplace, but also recreational or environmental noise. In recent years, there has been a marked increase in permanent hearing impairment in young people who have never worked in noise. Recreational noise is certainly a serious threat to the hearing organ. It is particularly harmful to listen to loud music in headphones, rock concerts in the open air, discos, and practicing certain sports, such as shooting or motorcycle sports. Even some children's toys, such as trumpets, guns, whistles, etc., have the risk of hearing damage.
Environmental noise is also a common phenomenon, especially in larger cities. Its main source is traffic in large cities (cars, trams, airplanes), devices used on construction sites and for the maintenance of green areas, and the so-called loud neighborhood. Environmental noise is usually very nuisance, and its long-term effects on the human body can often have irreversible effects. In addition to its negative effects on the hearing organ, it causes many non-hearing effects. It leads to chronic stress, neurotic reactions or even various psycho-somatic disorders - says Dr. Grażyna Bartnik, MD, otolaryngologist, audiologist and phoniatrist specialist.
Inaugurated in April this year. the social campaign SILENT NEIGHBORHOOD and its slogan: "Let's meet for silence" is to encourage home garden owners and companies responsible for the professional maintenance of green areas to use battery machines powered by "green energy". These devices are easy to use, do not emit harmful exhaust gases, and thanks to their quiet operation, you can work with them at any time, without disturbing the peace of family, neighbors, and residents of housing estates.
- Let's arrange silence in our immediate surroundings and let's have a real influence on the environment in which we live, work and rest. Then we will avoid not only neighborly conflicts due to the generation of excessive noise, but most of all our lives will be he althier and better. Let's choose sustainable gardening with the use of quiet, comfortable and reliable battery machines - says Marcin Andrzejczyk, Regional Marketing Manager for Eastern Europe at Husqvarna.
However, noise is uneven. Every day, nature gives us a large dose of noise, which is completely different for our ears and affects us differently. - The acoustic landscape of the so-called soundscape is a collection of all sounds that we hear at a given time and place. It has a lot to do with the landscape we see in this place.Another acoustic landscape can be found at the corner of a crowded downtown street, another one in a dense forest or in the countryside. We will hear different sounds at night and during the day.
Artists and scientists associated with the acoustic ecology movement study various acoustic landscapes and the degree of their pollution, i.e. the imbalance between individual sounds. The process of learning about the acoustic landscape begins with listening. To arrange silence, you must learn to listen. The next step is to understand and change habits in order to be able to agree on which sounds we want to hear and which are harmful and we want to reduce them or eliminate them from our common acoustic landscape - says Krzysztof Topolski, sound artist.
