We protect the hydrangea from spring frosts (Tip)

Table of contents

The Hydrangea macrophylla garden hydrangea sets flower buds in the late summer of last year (except for new varieties blooming on this year's shoots).Unfortunately, during the cold winter, especially in unprotected shrubs, annual shoots with tied flower buds may freeze. In March we unnecessarily rush to take off our winter coats.

Let's not forget to feed our winged brothers!

Spring frosts freeze swollen flower and leaf buds.It is worth remembering to cover the bushes with non-woven fabric during frosty days or spring frosts. At the end of March, we feed the plants with fast-acting fertilizer or spread well-decomposed composted manure mixed with peat and pine bark around them. They look best in shade and partial shade, on moderately moist soil covered with mulch.
