Phlox subulata(Phlox subulata), also known as the flame phlox, is an undemanding and easy-to-grow perennial plant native to North America. It creates low (up to 10 cm high), compact carpets, made of creeping, densely sown with stiff shoots, which are covered with light pink flowers from April to May. Pure speciesThe leek phlox produces light pink flowers . There are many varieties of phlox in cultivation with interestingly colored flowers. Thephlox varieties with the most attractive colorationinclude:
Sea phlox is an undemanding plantand is perfect for beginner gardeners. It is enough to provide it with permeable soil, preferably sandy, neutral or slightly acidic, and a quiet and sunny position. Pine phlox can also grow in partial shade, but then blooms less profusely.Sea phlox tolerates drought quite well , but in hot and extremely dry summers it may require watering. As a result of prolonged drought, its shoots dry up and the plant loses its nice appearance.
Shawlowy phlox can grow for many years in one place , which greatly simplifies the cultivation of this perennial. However, it requires rejuvenation every few years, because its shoots tend to dry out and the plant loses its attractive appearance. The rejuvenating cut of the maple phloxis best done at the end of winter.

Sea phlox does not require pruning flower shoots after fading. It repeats flowering spontaneously in the second half of summer, when the day gradually gets shorter. After the end of April, the shoots of the maple phlox grow very intensively. If its shoots start to diverge excessively along the bed, they can be shortened with a pruner.
You have to remember aboutsecuring phloxes for winter , because they are not completely frost-proof. To do this, cover them with mulch material, e.g. straw or dry leaves.
Shawlowy phlox is eagerly used in rock gardens(it belongs to the so-called spring rock five), for planting walls and flower beds with low perennials. It also works well as a ground cover plant, for covering large areas, e.g. for planting instead of a lawn.
Maple phlox can be propagatedby apical cuttings or plant division.
Saplings of phlox are harvested in August- September from the tops of the shoots. They are rooting under covers in boxes filled with peat substrate. The cuttings take 30 - 40 days to take root. They are ready to be planted permanently in early spring.
Seed phlox seedlings can also be prepared in a different wayIt is enough to spread a layer of peat mixed with sand around the plant in spring and keep the substrate moist at all times. Adventitious roots develop quickly on the shoots lying on the moist peat layer. At the end of summer, the rooted shoots are cut from the mother plant and planted in pots. Young plants are replaced permanently in the spring of the following year.
Anotherway to reproduce the pine tree phlox is by dividing the plants . You can do it from July to September. However, this treatment is more unreliable, the plants are harder to accept after planting.
