Regardless of the dates shown in the cutting calendar, you should also follow a fewgeneral rules regarding the dates of pruning trees and shrubs :

  1. as a rule, we make cuts from mid-February (when the risk of severe frosts passes) until the end of August. Later we do not cut, so that the shoots growing after cutting have had time to lignified before the onset of winter
  2. always choose a clear and dry day for cutting, with a temperature above 0 ° C (we never cut in frost)
  3. shrubs blooming in spring from buds formed in the previous year, such as: forsythia, three-leaf almond, quince, red currant, tamarisk, Japanese gold, are pruned only after flowering (on new shoots growing after cutting, they will produce flower buds for a year next)
  4. shrubs forming flower buds in spring and blooming in the same year, such as: budleja, shrub hydrangea, bouquet hydrangea, Japanese tavula, bush cinquefoil, pruned in early spring or early spring (they will produce flower buds on new shoots and then later of them will bloom)
  5. in spring we avoid cutting trees and shrubs, from which sap is leaking intensively (then they are said to "cry"), these are, for example: actinidia, birch, maple, grapevines

Note!
The dates given in the cutting calendar are indicative and may vary depending on the course of the weather and the pace of plant development in a given year. This mainly applies to plants that are pruned, for example, immediately after flowering (depending on the weather, the flowering date may differ slightly from year to year).
