More and more often, species of cherry with ornamental flowers are planted, originating from Japan, where they reign in spring gardens. The blooming cherry tree is a symbol of Japan, which has long been called the Land of the Rising Sun. The most commonly cultivated varieties of sawn cherry Prunus serrulata. It has been valued for centuries in China, and it was brought to Europe at the beginning of the 19th century from Guangzhou. The typical species is native to Korea and Japan, where it grows in the mountains to form tall trees. They are loosely branched trees, 3-6 m high. They are distinguished by a huge variety of flowers and profuse flowering. The odorless flowers are clustered in long stalks with large glandular pituitary glands.The varieties differ in height, shape of the crown as well as color and filling of flowers. In Japan, trees classified as 'Yama Zakura' are described as wild cherries from the mountains. The most commonly cultivated varieties from the Sato Zakura group, known as garden cherries. Popular of them are: 'Amanogawa', 'Kanzan', 'Kiku-shidare-zakura', 'Pink Perfection', 'Shimidsu', 'Shirofugen', 'Royal Burgundy'.

The second popular cherry grown in Poland is the pink cherryPrunus subhirtella. In the gardens, it is a small tree that grows up to 5 m. It has white or pink flowers, 2-5 each in umbels 2 cm in diameter. It is a very decorative little tree for planting in gardens and parks. In autumn, under favorable conditions, flowers may develop already in late autumn. Popular varieties grown in gardens include: 'Autumnalis', 'Autumnalis Rosea', 'Fukubana', 'Pendula', 'Plena', 'Ben-shidare'.

In the garden, it is best to plant cherries in a sunny position, sheltered from the wind, in fertile, sandy loam soil, neutral to strongly alkaline.The trees are resistant to urban conditions, they can be planted in gardens and parks as well as in urban tree stands. In cold winters, flower buds and even whole shoots may freeze. When caring for it, pay attention to cutting out shoots from the rootstock, which is our native species of bird cherry. Flower buds can be used to speed up flowering at home during winter and early spring.
