Decorative cherries

Table of contents

The 'Accolade' variety with pink flowers blooms from the end of March. This cherry grows to a height of 6 m and is characterized by an extensive crown. It looks very impressive in combination with early white-blooming Prunus x yedoensis.

The Japanese Cherry Prunus serrulata 'Kazan', which is 10-12 m tall and has a funnel-shaped crown, is very large and full of flowers. Its late flowering closes the ornamental cherry season in May.

A tree worth recommending is the native bird cherry Prunus avium (also called wild cherry or golden cherry). Some of its variants, such as'Plena', they bloom so magnificently that they overshadow some of the cherries that grow in Japan with their beauty. They are also much higher (12-15 m). Bird cherry begins to bloom at the end of April.

The trees related to ornamental cherries also include ornamental forms of common peach, Chinese plum and cherry plum of the 'Nigra' variety, as well as three-lobed almond trees. Most of these plants are distinguished by their compact habit and are perfect for small gardens. However, in a much smaller area, we can plant a dwarf cherry of the 'Globosa' variety. This tree has a crown 2.5 m in diameter and blooms white in early April.
