He althy cuisine is a popular slogan, but our intentions often end only with words. However, I managed to implement many principles of rational and he althy eating. What's more, as the owner of an allotment garden, I can grow vegetables for my kitchen myself.

Growing broccoliI tried to choose the most valuable ones, and broccoli is for sure. In addition, when it comes to cultivation, it perfectly tolerates our weather conditions, because it does not need high temperatures to grow. He is also not afraid of frosts.

Broccoli seedlings
Broccoli is an annual plant.I grow it from seedlings that I prepare at the end of February. In April, I plant the plants into the ground. I work on the land for broccoli in the fall of the previous year. It must be quite fertile and moist, so I do not spare manure. I place the seedlings in the soil with a spacing of 50x40 cm. During the growth, I fertilize the broccoli with e.g. nettle manure, and in July I can start harvesting.

Broccoli harvest
Green broccoli rose, with 20-25 centimeters of stem, cut when firm and firm. After collecting the main inflorescence, they also grow smaller. This way I have my own broccoli until the first frost. Unfortunately, it cannot be stored for too long without freezing. Inflorescences open up, turn yellow and are unpalatable. So if I put broccoli in the fridge, it's only for 2-3 dayswrapped in foil.

Broccoli in the kitchenIt is best raw as an addition to salads. If I cook, it should be short, because it becomes soft quickly. To get rid of the rather intense smell when cooking, I add a little nutmeg to the boiling water.

Nutritional values of broccoli
The nutritional values of broccoli have always impressed me. These vegetables are low in calories, but high in vitamin C, calcium, phosphorus, iron and chromium. Nutritionists recommend broccoli due to its high content ofprotein and beta-carotene (more than in carrots). In my opinion, he is a real "allotment doctor": it strengthens the heart and bones, improves eyesight, prevents anemia and cancer. It is said that it also soothes the nerves. And how can you not like broccoli ?!
