Sowing broad beans early

Table of contents

Broad bean Vicia faba is a leguminous plant belonging to the genus vetch from the legume family, which has been cultivated for several thousand years. It is worth growing it in a vegetable garden because of its high nutritional value, although not everyone likes its taste.

The sowing position should be sunny or semi-shaded, and the soil rich in humus and moist. If the beds are located on more sandy soil, it is worth fertilizing them with compost. Beans should not be grown after other legumes. In compact soil, seeds should be placed at a depth of 3-4 cm (in a sandy slightly deeper - 5-6 cm), 10-15 cm apart and in rows every 30 cm.Young plants can be slightly rooted with soil, regularly watered and weeded.

Broad beans are ripe for harvest when the seeds are fully developed, but still soft. Their size is not an indicator of maturity as it depends on the variety.
