When I was designing an alley in my garden, I thought that its beginning would be marked with a strong vertical accent. I bought thuja 'Columna', juniper 'Stricta' and Lawson's cypress 'Columnaris'. They caught on beautifully and in the first year they grew like a dream. It was only in the second that something bad started to happen with the cypress. First, individual needles turned brown, then whole twigs. I thought he was freezing because after a while new green growths started to appear. However, it was even worse in thenext season.
During this period, I read in the journal "My Beautiful Garden" about phytophthora disease of conifers. In the next issue about pests: spruce aphid, ocher and spider mites. I was scared in no joke! I examined the plant closely, but found no symptoms of the above-mentioned problems.
I was helpless. When I almost gave up, I found information about fertilizer for conifers against browning of needles. It turned out that there are many such preparations from different manufacturers in stores. I used it according to the instructions on the package. After the first application, I noticed an improvement. After three months, the cypress looked like new! From now on, I also treat other conifers prophylactically with fertilizer.
