PiO: grafting of the hanging willow

Table of contents

P:Maybe someone will tell me how to graft and when the Pendula willow (hanging). I tried vaccination but failed. In what time are the slips (vaccines) of the parent tree cut?

O:For the Salix caprea 'Pendula' willow, the best rootstock is the laurel and Smith willow. The rootstock is usually seedlings, but it can also be young seedlings.Young seedlings grow vigorously, producing a he althy root system, and are free from viral diseases.

The use of cuttings increases the virus transmission potential, but their growth is generally more even and stable.Zrazy are young fragments of one-year shoots with a few buds, taken from the mother plant. They are collected in late autumn and stored in a cool and humid room, protected against drying out and the development of fungi.

It grafts in winter or early spring, when the rootstock and scion are leafy. There are several ways of grafting, and for their description, please refer to professional literature intended for gardeners and fruit growers.Performing tree grafting requires a lot of experience, practice and accuracy, so it is worth practicing on cut branches beforehand.
