I was wondering for a long time how to secure the entrance to my house. I needed a practical barrier against the eastern winds and the snow blowing on the stairs in winter. I didn't want to build any walls or put up unsightly covers. The entrance to the house was supposed to be original, hence the idea with ivy was born.
I planted a creeper along the stairs and around the posts supporting the canopy above the stairs. This method has proven successful. The ivy grew very quickly and did its job perfectly. At the same time, this green climber has become a unique invitation to our home.
Ivy looks particularly impressive in combination with hanging colorful seasonal flowers, such as geraniums, petunias, surfinias or a flirtatious wolf that wraps around the support.
Of course, after cold winters, some of the shoots die, but the spring pruning is favorable for the plant. From year to year it becomes even more dense and the leaves are bigger.
My ivy has been growing in the same place for several years. It grows beautifully and is a very attractive welcome to our visitors, many of whom ask how it was possible to grow such a magnificent plant. I think our idea has become an interesting, gardening inspiration for them. Therefore, the gift that they often receive from me is precisely the ivy seedlings. I make them after each pruning.
I also planted ivy in other places of the garden. This plant is perfect not only as a windbreak, but can also be a screen covering both old walls and unsightly fences.
