Orlik - silhouetteThe form of the spotted eagle's growthOrlik - positionCare of the spotted eagleOrliki have the opinion of nostalgic plants, which are distinguished by their extraordinary beauty with filigree flowers and delicate leaves. It is hard to believe that this tiny plant not only grows in the shade, but also successfully faces all kinds of weather adversities. Eaglets fall well in natural plantings, e.g. under the canopy of trees and shrubs, as well as in romantic and rural gardens.
The fan-shaped eagle and the alpine eagle reach heights in the range of 10 to 20 cm. The common spotted eagle and its breeding varieties grow to a height of approx. 80 cm.Orlik is one of the few ornamental plants that boasts flowers in all colors of the rainbow - from white, to green, and even dark purple.
Most varieties have two-tone flowers suspended above a filigree gray-green foliage. Flower goblets, decorated with a characteristic spur, are also available in a double or multiple full form. The flowering period of most of the eagles lasts from May to June, in the case of the golden eagle it is even until August.Only the fan-shaped spotted eagle is characterized by a short flowering period, blooming only in May.
Semi-shaded positions in a moist, fertile ground provide optimal conditions for development.Cultivation in sunny places is allowed, but only if the substrate is regularly irrigated.
In sunny places, the eagles should be watered regularly.Cut the flower shoots right after flowering, so that they don't have enough time to set seeds on them.Otherwise, the perennials will multiply en masse (from seeds) and take over the whole garden.
Cutting in combination with feeding with compost helps plants repeat flowering in autumn. The lesser spotted eagle reproduces by seeds. However, beware! Most spontaneously sown plants have a different appearance than the mother plants.
