Proper lawn care has a huge impact on the appearance and he althy growth of grasses
Water the lawn early in the morning (best moment) or in the evening after sunset. It can and should be watered on hot afternoons if there are clear symptoms of wilting or even withering plants. Watering the lawn in the middle of a hot day is not very economical because 30-40% of the water evaporates. The most difficult period for the lawn is the emergence phase, which requires constant sprinkling of the plants.
For best results, rare but abundant watering, e.g. once a week, and in dry periods every 3-4 days. Daily sprinkling leads to the production of a shallow root system and promotes the development of diseases. The root layer of the soil (the grasses root at a depth of approx. 10 cm) should always be kept moist. In the following seasons, the grass will be able to survive for about 2 weeks without watering it.
Particularly important istaking care of the lawn right after it is set upFor approx. 3 weeks after sowing, manual watering is best.Appropriate fittings are attached to the garden hose for this purpose. The stream of water should be fine and very diffuse so as not to wash away the germinating seeds. At a later stage, portable sprinklers can be used, but it is important to change them systematically, because excessive watering in one place causes leaching of nutrients from the soil.
In every gardenlawn careprimarily involves mowing the turf regularly. Its task is not only to trim the grass to the required height, but also (or perhaps most importantly) to force the grass to branch out and, consequently, to maintain the appropriate turf density. The lawn will be thinned too infrequently.
The first mowing of a new lawn is performed when the grass blades are approx. 10 cm high. The lawn is then shortened to 6 cm. In later mowing, we can gradually lower the height of the mower blade. Remember that you don't cut more than half of the plant at a time. After 2-3 mowing, the lawn should be fully compacted. The principle is that the propercare of the lawncombined with frequent mowing contributes to its good condition and appearance. When we mow the grass regularly, but not too short, we reduce nutrient losses, prevent overgrowth of plants, strengthen the turf, and limit the growth of weeds and the activity of earthworms.
In mid-October, we mow the lawn for the last time before winter, and in spring, we start mowing in March or April, depending on the weather, when the ground is dry enough and the grass begins to grow quickly.
Lawn care , apart from watering and mowing, it also requires fertilizing. Without the right amount of nutrients, the grass will weaken and the appearance of the turf will deteriorate. Mineral fertilization contributes to the increase in the tillering of grasses, the degree of coverage of the lawn turf and its durability. In addition, the use of fertilization reduces the possibility of weeds and improves the resistance of the lawn to use. From the point of view of the proper growth and development of grasses, mineral fertilization should primarily include elements such as nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and iron.
There are several types of fertilizer that can be used to fertilize lawns. These can be fertilizers containing single nutrients or multi-component fertilizers composed of several nutrients. The use of multi-component fertilization simplifies the schedule of works that should be carried out withlawn careThe fertilization of the lawn with mineral fertilizers should be started in spring, right after the first mowing of the grass. During this period, nitrogen fertilizers or special fertilizers for grasses are mainly applied. Nitrogen fertilizers are given until around mid-summer. Then nitrogen fertilization should be completed so that the grass will slow down its growth before the onset of winter. From late summer to autumn, fertilizers with a predominance of potassium can be used, often sold as autumn fertilizers.
Remember that the fertilizer must be very evenly distributed over the lawn surface. It can be sown in a day or, for greater precision, a special seeder can be used. Do not use fertilizer on a dry lawn, strongly heated by the sun, and remember that it is worth watering the lawn after fertilization.
Apart from mineral fertilization, lawn carealso requires the use of organic fertilizers. Without them, we will not maintain the proper structure and fertility of the soil, and thus the good condition of the grasses. Therefore, you should also use compost or well-composted manure on lawns.
Even proper and regular carelawn carewill not prevent weeds from appearing on the lawn. Weeds with delicate stems and leaves do not need to be worried too much, as they will be cut while mowing. Just don't let them bloom and spread.Weeds growing in the shape of large, clearly visible rosettes, such as dandelion, plantain, and thistle can cause trouble. When they appear on the lawn, they should be weeded by hand or one of the herbicides available on the market, the so-called herbicides.
