How to build a summer house

Table of contents

My wife and I inherited a plot of land with an area of 30 ares. There was a wooden house, or rather a shed, and a livestock building, which used to be a cowshed. In the past, the plot was used for animal husbandry and the cultivation of vegetables and fruit. We dreamed of turning this land into a recreation area. For a complete rest, as is known, you need a bed. And we didn't even have anywhere to put it. This is how the idea was born to make a summer house out of an old barn. I decided to modernize myself.

Reconstruction of a summer house

  1. Our building was 5.2 x 13 meters. It was made of cinder blocks.
  2. I started the work from digging drainage ditches and making vertical insulation around the building.
  3. I demolished the interior first, and then put the partition walls again. I made them from concrete blocks.
  4. Outside, I covered the cinder blocks with silicate blocks. Then I insulated the whole building with polystyrene.
  5. To make our summer house look nice, I covered its facade with mineral plaster.
  6. In the middle of the cottage, I decided to level the walls with plasterboards. I mounted them on special aluminum frames. Then I smoothed and painted the whole thing.

Plants around the house

This is how a building was created on our small plot, which now has two rooms, a bright kitchen and a garage. I added a beautiful wooden porch to the house. My son-in-law helped me with all the construction work. One person is not able to put up a partition wall or install door frames on his own.My wife planted the porch with milinas, wolfs and clematis. These plants climb beautifully and decorate our house. Now we stay on the plot from spring until late autumn. This is where we found a great place to relax.

Building insulation with polystyrene

  • In order for the thermal insulation to be done correctly, it is worth remembering a few rules:
  • Works should be performed at the temperature of 5-21 ° C. If it is too warm or too cold, the grout or glue may stick worse.
  • Individual boards should be placed alternately on the so-called a brick. Then nothing will penetrate into the welds;
  • The polystyrene boards on the building's corners should overlap.
  • Before assembly, attach the starter strip. It will allow us to maintain the same height of insulation around the entire building.
  • Warming stages should not be performed at too long intervals. The UV rays will make the polystyrene air dry and crack.
