Barbecue for years

Table of contents

After last season, my grill wasn't good for anything anymore. I could have bought a ready-made one in the store, but I figured I'd build a better and more durable one myself.

I used blocks as the main building material, the so-called halves. But first I poured the foundation. Then I built 3 rows of hollow bricks, thanks to which the solid obtained an area of 1 m23 .

The next stage of construction is making a horizontal slab. First, I reinforced its surface, and then poured a layer of concrete over it. On the right side, I extended the plate to create a shelf.

Then I put the blocks again. I narrowed the top of the grill to make room for the chimney. And so my building obtained the shape of a pyramid.

When building such a grill, remember that the longer the chimney, the better. Therefore, a bit of convenience, and a bit to break the square shape, I poured a cylinder-shaped chimney out of concrete.

Then I primed the blocks with adhesive mortar. As for the arc-shaped holes, I made them of course with a special mold. It helped me to give the desired shape while laying the hollow bricks and pouring concrete.

Having such a construction, I only have to "cosmetic". For finishing, I chosefacade tiles in two different sizes and shaded colors. I lined the bottom of the grill with tiles measuring 30x14.8 cm, while the top - 30x7.4 cm. I lined the horizontal surface, i.e. the shelf, with smooth tiles. They are easier to clean, and the dripping grease does not penetrate their structure and leave unsightly stains.

After tiling the grill, I found the chimney disproportionate to the rest. So I added a ceramic pipe to it, which is used in chimney systems.

The interior of the hearth is lined with fireclay bricks that keep the heat. The way they are arranged means that now I can adjust the grate at three different heights.

Finally, I will reveal how I used the bowl from the old one in the new grill. Well, I made a hole in the horizontal plate. I put an old grilled bowl in it, in which I had drilled holes earlier. Thanks to this, I have better air circulation in the furnace and I do not have to sweep away the ash or coal residues. After the feast is over, I simply take the bowl out and throw away any embers. I am convinced that my new grill will serve me for years.
