Glogownik is sometimes incorrectly called red laurel plant.Although both plants belong to the same rose family, they are two completely different species.
Głogownik flourishes to a height ranging from 150 to 300 cm. Young spring shoots are reddish. In May and June the bushes produce fragrant white flowers that smell like hawthorn.
From October to December, the shoots are decorated with small red fruits (beware, they are poisonous!). Hawthorn occurs in evergreen and shedding forms. The last ones are characterized by a very nice autumn color.
Głogownik prefers partial shade.Although many of its species are winter-hardy plants, it is best grown in sheltered places.Optimal development conditions are in an acidic, permeable, humus substrate.
Plants are planted from October to November, and in the spring season from March to May.In hedge planting, we plant 3 seedlings per meter.
The speaker should be moderately powered.Superficial pruning may be undertaken all year round. A strong cut should be planned for February or March. Glogworms are affected by fire blight.
Shrubs can be used in solitary and group plantings, including, of course, hedges.Głogownik can also be grown in pots, being an attractive element of a balcony or terrace arrangement.
A very interesting visual effect is obtained when combining a Hawthorn with a laurel plant, e.g. in a hedge planting.
