Dahlias - silhouette, treatments, varieties

Such a variety of colors, shapes and sizes of flowers cannot be found in other plants. If we add non-difficult cultivation to it, we get a recipe for a successful flower bed.The lowest Dahlia dahlias grow up to 25 cm in height, while others reach up to 2 m. The latter must be staked to prevent them from breaking.

Plant height determines their application. Tall varieties are an effective element of the rebate (especially at the fence or wall) or in the back of the rebate. They can be stacked together to form collections, which makes them easier to grow. Tall dahlias are also suitable for cut flowers, while low dahlias can be used to create flower beds and borders, and for cultivation in containers and balcony boxes.

Dahlia flowers look good not only on sunny days, but also in cloudy weather, when their colors become even bright. The most popular are those with large and full flowers, but single dahlias also have their charm and grace. They usually belong to the lowest groups of dahlias.Dahlias grow very fast, so it is good to feed them with a compound fertilizer. In good conditions, they bloom about 10-12 weeks after planting. The first ones may bloom in July, but the inflorescences develop until the first frost.

The most important treatments

Regular removal of dead flowers extends the flowering period. It is worth adding that the most magnificent flowers will grow on those plants where the side buds are removed, leaving only one main bud for flowering.Higher names of da-lii require-no-support. We attach the poles and racks while the carp is sitting.

Storing tubers in winter and spring planting

After the first frost, dig out the tubers and leave them outside to dry. Cut the shoots 3-5 cm in length. After a few hours, place the tubers in a box, cover with sand or sawdust and move them to a dark, cool room with a temperature of 5-8 ° C. We plant them to the ground in mid-May. The soil should be enriched with fertilizers.

The carp are covered with soil so that the buds are just below the surface of the ground and last year's shoots stick out. Usually it is about 5-7 cm deep. Each piece of carp must have at least one visible bud (those without buds are useless as they will not sprout). The substrate should be neutral to slightly alkaline (pH 7.0 to 7.2).
