I have been the happy owner of a cherry tree for three years. I planted one, on a trial basis, to see if he could handle a gardener like me. And I must admit that he is persistent!
Cherry 'Kordia' resistant to diseases
I chose the 'Kordia' variety. Mainly because it is resistant to various fungi and bacterial cancer, which are the most common cherry diseases. However, this variety is sensitive to frost, but it is easier to deal with than with diseases.I also appreciate my tree because of its nice and tasty fruit. They are large, heart-shaped, dark carmine in color. And the flesh is probably the sweetest of any sweet cherries I've ever tasted! I always pick fruit (in the last season there was a whole bucket of them!) I always pick with tails. Then they do not rot, do not let go of the juice and stay fresh longer. I only wash them immediately before eating. An additional advantage of 'Kordia' is that its fruit hardly breaks. My wife Hania and my sons Bartuś and Wojtuś eat them from morning to evening. I am happy to help them in this activity.
Cutting cherriesAfter three seasons with cherries, I can say with certainty that our tree is a woman. I have to take care of it and provide cosmetics all the time! Three years ago, in early June, I planted a skinny stick. And in the fall I already had a tree with overgrown branches. It was then that I acquired a new profession: the cherry barber! I had to trim the main shoot of the tree at a height of about a meter for the crown to develop well. Autumn cuts of trees increase the crown growth, and winter cuts (in February) increase the yield. But it didn't end with the cut, because then I had to do a haircut! Twigs that had grown during the season were weighed down with pebbles in bags, fastened with a string. I wanted the branches to grow horizontally. I simply cut out the extremely resistant ones. This year I played the cherry barber for the last time, because I read in the gardening literature that the formation of the tree should be completed within 3 years. After that, it only requires care. Before the onset of frost, I worked as a cherry make-up artist - white makeup on the trunk is the most fashionable, lime is the preferred cosmetics.

RECIPE FOR THE GARDEN- Why do cherries crack?
Cherries crack not because we do not care for them. If heavy rains fall shortly before the fruit is harvested, then the sugar concentration in the pulp rises sharply. This, in turn, causes water to remain in it. Fruits swell so much that they eventually burst when exposed to high internal pressure .Large fruited varieties, such as 'Summit', are susceptible to cracking. Cherries 'Kordia' and 'Regina' rarely break.
