Succulent gardens on the balcony

Table of contents

Water scarcity is even more acute in the summer, because holidays are the time of holidays. Then the plants are often left unattended for a long time.

One solution is succulent plants. Due to their ability to store water in their leaves, shoots or roots, they are naturally adapted to prolonged periods of drought. These species can be found among a variety of genera and families.

The huge variety of forms, shapes and colors of succulents allows you to create very interesting and fashionable compositions. The most commonly used are the Sempervivum rosette, Eonia Aeonium and Echeveria Echeveria, Sedum creeping sedum, Crassula crassula with beautifully colored leaves or Senecio old trees.

However, not only contrastingly colored or shaped plants are juxtaposed. They can be enriched with additional elements, such as stones, moss or dried shoots, e.g. moss.A vessel is an extremely important complement to the composition. Most often they are clay bowls or containers made of other materials, e.g. galvanized sheet.

The small volume of the substrate that plants have to deal with in the containers does not allow them to take full advantage of their adaptations, such as the extensive root system. Therefore, gardens composed of succulents, although much more resistant to drought, require watering from time to time. The frequency of watering depends not only on the temperature and rainfall, but also on the type of substrate and the size of the vessel.
