10 principles of an economical gardener!

Table of contents

1. Water with a hose

Watering with a watering can is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Watering with a hose and sprinklers is much more efficient and less tiring. Oscillating sprinklers are perfect for rectangular surfaces, on other surfaces, e.g. Circular sprinklers.

2. Cut, but costs

Choose trees and shrubs for planting, which, even without pruning, maintain a nice shape and bloom attractively.Recommended are, among others decorative cherry, decorative apple tree, apple tree, magnolia and witch hazel. Let's also be interested in the varieties of maple and robinia, which develop spherical crowns without outside help.

3. Mulch and mulch

In newly established flower beds, the spacing between plants can be disproportionately large, and in such conditions weeds easily spread. Their development is effectively inhibited by bedding made of crushed bark, e.g. ground pine bark. Its use also has the additional advantage that the mulched substrate retains moisture for longer, and the arrangement itself looks nicer. The profit is therefore triple!

4. Mow less often

It is enough to neglect the lawn for a while, and field plants immediately spread over it (their seeds are blown by the wind). As a result, the lawn quickly turns into a meadow.Who it happened to knows that such green looks very attractive. In order to maintain it, we mow and power the "lawn" less often. After the spring season, we mow once in June and once in September. We only mow the alleys more often.

5. Cure with gravel

You cannot set up a lawn everywhere and a meadow does not work everywhere. The pavement is expensive and its laying is terribly time-consuming. A successful alternative: litter or grit. Under the layer of stone, we put a non-woven fabric to prevent the growth of weeds. In this assumption, bed plants were replaced with potted plants.

6. Cover the substrate

In hard-to-reach positions, e.g. under the spreading canopy of trees and shrubs, it is worth planting ground cover species. Most of them are easy to maintain, and at the same time they effectively limit (or completely inhibit) the development of weeds.periwinkle, ivy, epimedium, geranium, Siberian thirst, and dry grass, hoof-plant, brunner, turkey or lily of the valley. The cover can be composed of several species.

7. Don't carry!

Terracotta pots look beautiful, but very heavy. The problem is solved by lightweight plastic containers, which are often exact copies of ceramic originals. At first glance, they are indistinguishable. However, this is not the only advantage of plastic over terracotta. Plastic containers are cheaper and keep water longer.

8. Save the cross

Thanks to the raised bed, crops can be cultivated and then harvested without unnecessary strain on the cross and knees. The substrate on the raised bed is prepared from several layers, and at the very bottom it is arranged with a fine-mesh mesh, which protects the crops against voles (and other rodents). The raised bed has excellent conditions for growing herbs.

9. Put the ladder down

From among fruiting trees, choose those that grow poorly, have a low trunk and a moderate crown size ('Jonathan' apple tree in the photo). Thanks to this solution, we will be able to pick most of the fruit straight from the ground, and the rest from a small ladder. Easy harvesting is also obtained from columnar and bushy cultivars.

10. Come wherever you want

The path made of stone-cut garden tiles fits interestingly into the ground floor, made of durable thyme, acena and cinquefoil, resistant to tramplingThe tiles are arranged quickly, and, importantly, there is no path permanent nature, thanks to which it can be quickly placed elsewhere at no additional cost. They are placed on sand. The tiles can also be polygonal.
