Pond with a fountain

Table of contents

The soft and steady murmur of the water calms you down. In such a place you can relax well, and there is a unique microclimate here. Therefore, when planning the pond, we did not want to create only a reservoir with stagnant water, but also that it would be in motion.

Stone stairs

In the beginning, we brought some different kinds of stones. They formed rather massive steps. At their base, a winding trough begins, from which the water flows straight into the lower pond.

Shrubs to the pond

Along the entire length, on both sides of the cascade and the trough, we built stone pots in which bushes were planted. From the side of the fence, the higher ones: holly, willow, thujas, junipers, tavulas, and the lower ones on the side of the yard: creeping cotoneaster, heather and seasonal flowers.

Eye illumination

Water flowing quite quickly through the trough falls into a large pond with a capacity of about 1500 liters. It is a fixed tank, all concreted, lined with black foil, typical for ponds. The stone quay is reinforced with rocks of various sizes embedded in cement. There is a fountain in the middle of the pond, connected to a closed-circuit pump that discharges water to the cascade through a filter. A UV lamp is also integrated into the entire system. Thanks to this, our cascade and the whole pond are enveloped in romantic, colorful light in the evening. Its source is also two lamps placed on the bottom of the tank.

Aquatic plants

Around the pond in special baskets I planted aquatic plants, and we also built a two-stage rockery. There are bonsai trees, creeping thuja, 'Conica' spruce, yucca, heather and many different flowers, which I regularly plant in the season. The combination of the water cascade, pond and plants gave a great effect.

Our advice

UV lamps

They eliminate the effect of "green water" and purify it. Algae fragments as well as parasites and harmful bacteria flowing through the lamp are destroyed and the water regains its clarity.
