Last summer, I received photos of weeping willow with visible symptoms - spots on leaves and shoots from Mrs. Luiza, one of our readers. I found it a bit difficult to identify. Fortunately, bothweeping willow diseasesthat I suspected can be treated in the same way. After two months, I received confirmation that the proposed spraying had helped. See what to do when your willow gets so sick.
Weeping willow disease - spots on leaves and shoots.
Photo provided by our reader, Mrs. Luiza. Thank you!
The photo shows the condition of the plant in June this year. On the basis of the photo alone, it seemed to me that twoweeping willow diseases- willow leaf and shoot blotch or anthracnose. They attack various species of willows, not only the weeping ones.
Blotch of willow leaves and shoots- on the upper side of the leaves there are numerous dark brown spots, and on the underside of the leaf, where the spots are spot, browning of the tissues is visible. The tissue around the spots turns yellow, and severely infected leaves deform and fall prematurely. On the willow shoots, the spots may be brown or black, dry, with a cracked surface. The tops of affected shoots may die or break off where the spots on the shoots appear.
Willow anthracnosis- black spots on the leaves, usually accumulated along the main vein, grow rapidly. Leaves wilt, wrinkle, shrivel and hang down. The spots on the shoots are brown, necrotic, up to several centimeters in size. When the stain covers the entire circumference of the shoot, it begins to die in the part above the stain.
Obieweeping willow diseasesresult from fungal infection. The first is caused by Drepanopeziza sphaeroides, the second is Glomerella cingulata. They can be combated in the same way. First of all, leaves and shoots with visible disease symptoms must be cut and burned so that the disease does not spread further. Then we spray Topsin M 500 SC (0.1% concentration). Spraying should be repeated 2-3 times at intervals of 10-14 days.To reduce the use of the chemical, it is best to spray alternately with the natural preparation Biosept Active, which strengthens the plants and makes them resistant to diseases. After the treatment of willow with Topsin, we can continue spraying with natural Biosept Active until autumn to protect the willow from recurrence of the disease.
After two months, I received information from Mrs. Luiza that the spraying helped, and after the willow disease, no trace of it - the proposed method of treatment turned out to be effective.
You have to take into account, however, that in the following years, especially in the case of anthracnosis, the disease may reappear. Then the spraying should be repeated. The above-mentioned Topsin M 500 SC and Biosept Active preparations can be ordered in the shop of our guide. I encourage you to buy and save your willow trees!
