Snowdrop - description, photos of snowdrops

Snowdrop snowdrop(Galanthus nivalis), also called common snowdrop, is a species that grows wild in many places in Europe, also in Poland, mainly in the south of the country. The timing of the flowering of snowdrops largely depends on the prevailing weather conditions. In the western part of Poland, snowdrops often bloom already in February, and in the north-east, sometimes only in April.

Identifying these flowers in the forest is not difficult. However, if it is a problem for us, it is worth reading the descriptionwhat the snowdrop looks likeand look atpictures of snowdropsSnowdrop flowers, hanging downwards, they are composed of two whorls of petals. The three outer petals are long, snow-white and widely unfold to the sides, while the three inner, green-tinged petals adhere tightly to each other, forming a short tube.Flowering usually takes around 10 days, but when the cooler weather returns, it may take longer to bloom. On warm days, the petals are unfolded, and when the cold comes back, they fold to protect the pistils and stamens. Snowdrop leaves are fleshy, narrow and oblong, initially only 2 - 4, they develop more frequently after fading.
