How to propagate oleander?

Table of contents

The propagation of oleanderis not difficult and can be very rewarding. There are basically3 ways to breed oleanderbut one of them is extremely easy and ideal for amateur environments. And that's what we're going to focus on. Seehow to propagate oleanderfor he althy cuttings that will quickly take root, develop and produce flowers!

How to propagate oleander: (1) cut the green tip of the shoot, (2) remove the leaves from the lower node, (3) put it in lukewarm water for about an hour, (4) plant in a pot with a sandy substrate

For the propagation of oleandernon-lignified shoot cuttings are perfect, which can be obtained in early spring (from March). Cut green apical shoots several centimeters long and having at least two nodes. Leaves and buds are removed from the lower node. If the seedlings are 4-5 nodes, the leaves and buds are removed from the lower two.
So cut oleander cuttings should be placed in lukewarm water for about an hour , and the places after cutting should be protected with rooting. The rooting agent is a powder preparation containing synthetic plant hormones that initiate the production of roots.

Thenoleander cuttings are placed in a sandy substrateYou can also leave them in a container with water to sprout the roots and then put them in the sand. It is good if the container is dark, then the cuttings will take root better. The air temperature should be around 20 ° C.
After a month, oleander seedlings can be transplanted to the proper substrate A mixture of clay, sandy soil and peat will be very good. With a bit of luckso propagated oleanders may bloom in the same yearIf we harvest cuttings at the end of summer, the young plants will bloom next year.
In the case of oleanders, I sometimes usepropagation by airbed , rooting the shoots without separating them from the mother plant. However, this is a more difficult process and gives worse results than reproduction from shoot cuttings.
Oleanders can also be propagated from seeds . In this case, however, the plants only bloom after a few years and inherit the characteristics of the parent to a small extent.

Note!Oleander is a poisonous plant, so be careful when picking seedlings, work with gloves or wash your hands thoroughly after the procedure. You cannot touch your mouth or eyes.
