During sunny and warm summers we like to rest in our home gardens and allotments. However, rest can turn into a ordeal when mosquitoes begin to bother us. These little, biting beasts can turn a wonderful warm summer evening into a real nightmare. So what's the bestway to get mosquitoes in the garden ? See how to get rid of these nuisance insects quickly and effectively!
Mosquitoes in the garden
The result of mosquito bites is reddening of the skin, blisters and unpleasant itching. There are, however, simpleremedies for mosquitoes in the gardenthat can reduce the number of these insects or discourage them from attacking us in the garden. When arranging a garden, we often do not realize that we invite mosquitoes to our place by creating shady, humid corners. They like humidity, but sun and drought are not favorable to them. Therefore, as a rule, on a warm sunny day, they do not threaten us in open spaces.Mosquitoes in the gardentease only in the evenings, when it is already cooler or on rainy days.
Therefore, if mosquitoes are a problem in our area, we should avoid creating shady places, dense thickets and bodies of water. It is worth eliminating every place where water accumulates. Even a small puddle can become a real breeding ground for mosquitoes. If we collect rainwater in the garden, it is worth covering the barrel or other rainwater container with a mesh with small mesh so that mosquitoes do not have access to this water.
What if we want a pond? In this case, it is worth knowing that female mosquitoes lay their eggs only in stagnant water. The movement of the water will definitely disturb them. Therefore, if we already set up a pond, a stream, water cascades or a fountain are recommended. It will be an excellentmethod for mosquitoes , which will make it difficult for them to reproduce in our pond. It is also worth taking care of the cleanliness of the pond water and biological balance, as mosquitoes prefer polluted and shallow reservoirs. Let's introduce fish (e.g. crucian carp) and frogs to the pond, which feed on insect larvae.
Intensely fragrantmosquito repellent plantsThese are wonderful aromatic herbs such as lavender, basil and mint. From ornamental plants, it is worth planting Geraniums in perennial beds. Among these perennials we can find excellent varieties for rockeries, flower beds, turf cover and for covering sunny slopes. Most of them like sunny locations, and some tolerate partial shade as well. On the balconies and terraces, the mosquito, also known as the mole-like plectrum, will be perfect. Its slender stems look especially beautiful in hanging pots, from which they freely fall down.
But flowering perennials and herbs aren't the only fragrant repellantsmosquitoes in the gardenWhen it comes to trees and shrubs, mosquitoes do not like to fly around acetic sumac (Rhus typhia). They are short trees with relatively low soil requirements and tolerate urban air pollution well. They can grow in full sun or shade. Terrace owners can afford to grow the 'Dissecta' variety in a container with a magnificent, spreading crown. This tree is up to 4 meters high and 3 to 6 meters wide. Its deeply cut leaves turn orange in autumn. The trunk of this variety can tilt, which gives the plant even more charm.
The species and the variety mentioned here are sufficiently frost-resistant to our climate. However, as amethod for mosquitoes , in principle, I recommend only container cultivation of the 'Dissecta' variety, because the sumac planted on the plot, due to its numerous outgrowths, can spread like a weed.
If, instead of under a sumac crown, we prefer to rest in an openwork gazebo, it is worth considering the possibility of installing insect nets or at least suspending light curtains that will keep flying insects away.
If the above-mentioned naturalremedies for mosquitoes in the gardenare not enough, we can use anti-mosquito candles, scent sticks or ultrasonic repellers . If we have access to an electrical socket, we can use an electrofumigator. It is a device in the form of a plug with a plate soaked in an insecticide and a vaporizer. When the set is placed in an electrical socket, substances harmful to insects are released. The easiest way is to spray or lubricate the skin with a selected repellent (essential oils, herbal extracts), such as, for example, Spray for mosquitoes, ticks and flies, which will scare away mosquitoes regardless of whether we have planted the right herbs, sit under the crown of vinegar sumac or behind an insect screen curtain. This will allow us to move around in the garden outside of places where we scare away mosquitoes in other ways.
It is also a very good idea to spray against mosquitoes outdoors, on the surface of the entire garden. The best preparation for this purpose is Aspermet 250 EC, which will also protect the garden against ticks. We can also use Aspermet in closed rooms, such as garden arbors or summer houses.
