Arranging the garden in front of the houseis one of the most important stages of designing the garden around the house. The front of an apartment building is often viewed the most by visitors, neighbors, or bystanders. Therefore, it is worth carefully considering its functionality and development. Valuable comments onarrangement of the garden in front of the houseprovided to us by the landscape architect Piotr Moliński.

The entrance to the house is an important element of the front space. If we planto arrange the garden in front of the housein a formal style, the door is often in the center or at right angles to the plot border. In turn, when making an informal (loose) arrangement, the front door can be at an angle or set out different shapes between the entrance to the property and the entrance to the house. These are important design elements that need to be analyzed when performingfront garden arrangement
Thinking about thearrangement of the garden in front of the housewe must also take into account the style and character of the adjoining architecture. If the house has a specific style, e.g. baroque, then it is worth using materials and plants that match that style. The garden and the house will become one harmonious whole, because a good design should take into account the residential building as an element of the garden, and not be a separate utility sphere. However, when the building is not styled according to a given period or style, we have more options. We can use various plants and materials, such as wood, concrete, bricks, grit.
Another important issue isthe purpose of the front garden in front of the house We have to determine whether we want it to be part of the entire garden or to have a separate land development. We need to know whether it is to be a space with vegetation, recreation or quite a simple space (lawn, pavement or parking lot).
When planningplanting in the part of the garden in front of the housewe must approach it with a head and a distance. We should avoid planting everything we like, to avoid clashes of color or composition. It is also important to choose the right species. We should try to choose trees and shrubs with slower growth or with a compact shape. Trees with a spherical crown shape (Norway maple 'Globosum' or peculiar cherry 'Umbraculifera') are phenomenal. We can use slow-growing creeping junipers, formed evergreen boxwood, low perennials or ornamental grasses. Remember not to plant large trees and shrubs near the facade or stairs at the front door. One is that we will have to cut the plants quite often, and two that many of them will lose their natural or original shape. It is also worth remembering not to plant plants with thorns or spikes near the entrance sidewalk, which may injure people walking along the path.
When we are not sure about our project or we are afraid of ourselvesarrange a garden in front of the house , it is worth taking the advice of a landscape architect who will definitely help you deal with this problem.
If we have very little spacein front of the front entrance to the house , we should try to arrange the space differently than by setting up a lawn there. Lawns in such places are impractical, difficult to maintain and mow, which affects its appearance in the future. In such places it is better to use gravel, grit, wood chips or plant low slowly growing ground cover plants. Colorfully blooming heathers, low grasses, fruiting goltery spreads, profusely blooming dotted carnation or fragrant sand thyme are certainly a better and more interesting sight than an ordinary green lawn.
The garden in front of the housecan also be arranged in an interesting way by introducing lighting in the form of lanterns or overhead lamps. Well-chosen garden lamps provide a warm and not too glaring light strip, which, despite its useful function, can also illuminate interesting shapes of plants.
As we can see, the properarrangement of the garden in front of the houserequires a lot of thought and work. However, the right plants and landscaping design can create a nice and functional garden in front of the house.
