Red worms on lilies. What is this?

Feeding from early spring on the leaves and flower buds of liliesthe red worms are lilac . This beetle makes loud noises rubbing its three abdominal segments against the covers. Hence the Polish name of this characteristic lily pest.
Adultlilac beetlesare 8 mm long and have a brick color. The reddish-brown larva with a black head is covered with sticky mucus. Oval, reddish eggs of this pest can also be found on plants. Lilac chrysanthemum gnaws holes in the shoots, reducing the assimilation apparatus and thus weakening the plant. The holes appearing in the flower buds are the reason whythe lily does not bloom or its flowering is very weak

How to fight red worms on lilies?

In controlling red worms on liliesit is important to inspect the plants regularly and manually remove the pests. If we do not have too many lilies in the garden,it is worth removing red worms simply by hande (preferably remove from the plant and crush it). Unfortunately, the period of laying eggs and hatching of the lilac violin is long - it lasts from mid-spring to mid-summer, so we will have to continue selecting the appearing violin manually for quite a long time. Remember tocollect and destroy also the larvae and the eggs of the chanterelle
However, ifthere are a lot of pests and mechanical removal is not enough, , you can resort to spraying with insecticides, preferably with systemic preparations. Systemic action means that the preparation is absorbed by the green parts of plants and moves with the juices throughout the plant. Thenred worms on lilies die even if they have not been sprayed directlyIt is also worth knowing that chemicals work best on adult forms of chanterelle. The eggs of this pest are much more resistant to insecticides. Therefore, we must reckon with the need to repeat the spraying.
An example of a contact and gastric insecticide is Polysect 005 SL. It works on the surface, deeply and systematically.Spray the lilies as soon as you notice the first signs of feeding by red wormsIf you notice more insects after 14 days, repeat the treatment.
Preparation for red worms in liliesPolysect 005 SL is available both as a ready-to-use spray preparation as well as a concentrate for solution with water.
In the fight against red worms on liliesMospilan 20 SP may also be helpful, which, like Polysect, acts superficially, deeply and systematically. We use the preparation at a dose of 4 g of the agent per 10 liters of water. Potassium garden soap can be added to the spray, which will support the action of the insecticide (it will improve its adhesion to plant tissues).
