Asperennials for a country gardenyou should choose plants that will emphasize the natural, informal nature of the garden, and will lead us to memories of a warm, rural summer. Warm colors of flowers, inflorescences on tall stems, slightly swaying in the wind, plants attracting insects and emanating a light scent will create such an atmosphere. Perennials for the country garden
Perennials for a country gardenis a very large and diverse group of perennial plants, both rhizomatous, bulbous and bulbous. These are usually plants that fit well in a naturalistic garden, look good in a group and in combination with other plants, creating colorful clumps but rather loose, not too compact.
Below 10 of my favorite plants, which I especially recommend asperennials for the country garden , which are a perfect complement to annual wildflowers.
Brodiaea laxa 'Queen Fabiola'- is an onion plant from the garlic family, reaching up to 50 cm in height. Perfect for rock gardens, fringes or as a ground cover. It blooms in the period May-June, producing charming, delicate, dark blue flowers that perfectly fit into the atmosphere of a country garden. The flowers can be used as cut, they stand in a vase for a long time.
Purple Echinacea- is a perennial with stiff, erect shoots, reaching, depending on the variety, from 60 to over 100 cm in height. This plant forms characteristic flower baskets with a thorny, brown, pointed center and slightly hanging ligament flowers. In 'Alba' the flower petals are pure white, while in 'Magnus' - pink and much larger than in the species. This plant feels good in sunny places, on fertile and not too dry soils.
Faassen's catnip- a perennial with highly branched shoots recommended for rural gardens, the attractive foliage of which decorates the bed throughout the growing season. The leaves are gray-green and the lavender flowers are gathered in spike inflorescences. We can admire these flowers from May to September. In addition, this plant is not very demanding, it does well in full sun and tolerates periodic droughts. It is worth planting if we want our country garden not to require too much care.
Ear winder 'Kobold Purple'- it produces purple and very beautiful inflorescences, in the form of a thick spike, which we can admire from July to September, and therefore almost all summer. Unlike other flowers, the liatra's inflorescences open from the top instead of the bottom. The spike liatel looks particularly attractive when planted on borders or in flower beds together with other garden perennials. It reaches a height of 80 - 90 cm, which makes it suitable for use also as a cut flower.
Permanent lupine- is a magnificent bedding perennial with folded palm leaves and long inflorescences that can grow up to 1.5 m in height during flowering. The flowers with a characteristic butterfly structure can be white, yellow, pink, red or blue, depending on the variety. It blooms in June, sometimes again in autumn. Remember, however, that lupine likes sunny and warm positions, fertile soil and low in calcium, so before planting it, make sure that it will work in our flowerbed.
Perennials for the country garden - pink mallow
Pink Mallow , also known as Garden Mallow - is a classic among perennials for country gardens. From June to August, we can admire the large, goblet-shaped flowers gathered on very high (up to 2 m) inflorescences.Mallow stalks are thick, roughly hairy, and the leaves are green, 5-lobed, notched. Garden mallow is suitable for sunny places, it looks great when planted near fences. Tall inflorescence shoots need to be tied to supports. The life of the plant is usually two years, but it can be extended up to 4 years by cutting the shoots at the end of flowering.
Ostróżka 'Pacific'- highly frost-resistant bedding perennial, reaching up to 150 cm in height. Its flowers, collected on very long inflorescences, can be white, blue or purple. With abundant flowering, it is necessary to tie it to the supports. The larkspur requires fertile and moderately moist soil, but it does well in full sun and partial shade. At the end of flowering, it is worth cutting the larkspur inflorescences. This treatment induces re-flowering and prolongs the live life of the plant.
Flame paniculate 'Brigth Eyes'- produces pale pink flowers with a darker center, which appear in mid-summer.This perennial, ranging from 90-120 cm in height, belongs to the polychrome family and is perfect for both flower beds and cut flowers. In summer, the sweet scent of flowers of the paniculate flame will attract many bees and butterflies to our country garden.
Aconite Fischer 'Arensii'- is a tall perennial that flowers profusely throughout the summer. It produces showy, bright blue flowers set on tall, slightly woody shoots. The perennial is fully frost-resistant and is perfect for flower beds in a country garden. But be careful! Let's not plant aconite if the garden is used by young children who are curious about the world, because this plant is very poisonous.
Greek Anemone 'White Splendor'- this plant blooms profusely, producing snow-white flowers and decorative jagged leaves, somewhat reminiscent of fern leaves. It belongs to perennials that are low and resistant to low temperatures. Suitable for rockeries, flower beds or garden borders. Reaching only 10 cm in height, it can grow right in front, at the foot of our rural flowerbed.
