Symptoms of currant anthracnose

Currant anthacnosis is caused by the fungusDrepanopeziza ribis. Disease symptoms may also appear on gooseberry leaves. Already in the second half of May,small, greenish, later brown spots appear on the leaves of currants and gooseberriesWith time, the spots increase in size, and the entire leaves prematurely turn yellow and fall off. Leaf fall may begin as early as June, and by August the bushes may be completely devoid of leaves. For this reasoncurrant anthracnose is also called leaf fall

The development of the disease is favored by warm weather with a lot of rainfall and strong winds.

Combating currant anthracnose

If we have noticedsymptoms of currant anthracnose , we should cut and destroy the infected leaves on an ongoing basis (it is best to burn them or bury them deeply). As the fungus hibernates in leaves fallen from the bush and re-infects in spring, allfallen leaves must be ruffled and removed from under the currant and gooseberry bushesYou should also do the annual trimming of the currants to avoid over-thickening of the bushes. Also, do not overdo it with nitrogen fertilization, as plants over-fertilized with nitrogen are more susceptible to attacks of fungal diseases.

Leaf fall control requires sprayingwith fungicides. The first spraying is done before the currant blooms, then after flowering, and continues until the fruit is harvested, with a grace period (the time that must elapse from the last spraying to the day the fruit is harvested). The final spraying can be done after harvesting the fruit.
Spray agents against currant anthracnose:
Miedzian 50 WP- the first spraying immediately before flowering, the second spraying immediately after flowering, until harvest, with a grace period of 7 days. The intervals between sprayings should be at least 10 days, and the maximum number of treatments per season is 3 sprayings. The preparation is used in the amount of 3 g per 0.7 liters of water. Recommended medium drop spraying with a garden sprayer with a lance.
Miedzian Extra 350 SC- dates and rules for spraying the same as in the case of Miedzian 50 WP. Dosage: 3ml per 0.7 liters of water.
Miedzian spraying also fights other currant diseases: white currant rust and white leaf blotch.
Switch 62,5 WG- perform the first treatment before flowering, when new shoots reach a height of 10-20 cm, next treatments every 10 days (beginning of flowering, full flowering and the end of flowering) ) and after harvesting the fruit and cutting out the old fruit-bearing shoots. During the season, a maximum of 3 sprayings can be performed at intervals of 10 days. Dosage of the preparation 8-10 g per 5-20 liters of water. Recommended fine spraying. The grace period is 7 days.
Switch 62.5 WG also helps to combat gray mold and currant shoot dieback.
Topsin M 500 SC- spray currants from the beginning of the inflorescence development (flower buds closed in light brown scales) to the end of the flowering phase, before the development of fruit buds and after harvest. Dosage: 15 ml of the agent for 5-7 liters of water. Only 1 spraying per season with Topsin.
Topsin M 500 SC also combats the American gooseberry mildew, white spot of currant leaves and gray mold.
For the best effectiveness, it is recommended to applyspraying with several preparations alternately at intervals of at least 10 daysIn order to minimize the harmfulness to beneficial insects in amateur garden crops, it is recommended to preventive spraying with Copper in spring before flowering and then with Topsin after the fruit harvest.
