And the right conditions are, first of all, an acidic substrate, and secondly, a dedicated fertilizer that will provide them with the ingredients necessary for proper functioning. And here is a very important note: both of these conditions must work together, i.e. if the soil is not acidic enough, the plants will not take up the nutrients contained in the fertilizers. We partially influence acidification, for example by using appropriate substrates when planting plants, or by acidifying the soil, mulching it with the bark of conifers. In turn, the right fertilizer is a separate matter that you need to be aware of when going shopping.
A wide range of fertilizers has been created for the entire group of acidophilic plants, such as specialized preparations for hydrangeas, rhododendrons or blueberries, as well as fertilizers dedicated to conifers. Besides, when deciding on a specific product, we can choose its form, i.e. crystalline, liquid or granular.
It is important because the selection of a specific type has a significant impact on the way of applying the fertilizer. The most popular are granules, which are easy to apply and last for up to 8 weeks. However, remember to apply them to plants in good condition, and secondly, to water the plants after application, if it is not raining, which will dissolve the fertilizer and start its operation.
Granular fertilizers also have their opponents, for example those gardeners who are afraid for the safety of animals living in gardens. They can be recommended liquid fertilizers, which, depending on the type, can be used both in soil and in foliar application. The so-called fertilizers have a similar application. crystalline, highly concentrated, but require dilution. However, it is worth remembering that the offer of fertilizers for conifers also includes fertilizers against browning of needles, containing magnesium, which as a component of chlorophyll is responsible for the color of the leaves. However, it should be borne in mind that if the needles turn brown, it may also be the result of a fungal disease or pest attack. In such a situation it is absolutely necessary to get rid of the problem, because fertilizer alone cannot solve it. However, it can be used after pest control or after anti-fungal treatment.
Conifers are undoubtedly an important element of our gardens. They deserve attention mainly due to the great diversity of species, varieties and forms that can be used to arrange entire gardens.
Equally important, as I mentioned in the introduction, are evergreen plants that decorate gardens all year round. That is why it is worth paying attention to them, and when choosing the fertilizer, choose the most appropriate one: for plants, taking into account their requirements and for yourself, taking into account your preferences and comfort of use.
