Guniak red - dangerous or useful?

The red beetle otherwise known as the June beetle is not a dangerous insect for people. It eats plants, mostly leaves of trees and shrubs. Most often it is found on the crowns of tall trees.

It is very similar to the May beetle, however it is slightly smaller than it.It is covered with short hairs, and the carapace is brown in color, slightly yellowish. Its grubs grow up to 3 cm. It is a fairly common insect that breeds in wastelands and former agricultural areas. He is a frequent visitor to allotment areas where grubs emerge from under lawns.

Their development is quite long - it ranges from 2-3 years depending on the area. They develop a little longer around midnight. The grubs feed on the ground, most often under the lawn, and emerge upwards in early April. Temperature changes can cause their appearance to be delayed by up to a month.

In the evenings, the guniak beetle flies out from under the treetops and migrates to fertilize the female. During this period, there is a risk that this quite noisy cockchafer will get tangled in the hair or make cycling difficult. As a rule, these are harmless insects that you shouldn't be afraid of.

How to protect yourself from beetles?

Guniak Czerwczyk is a seasonal insect that is most numerous in the period at the turn of June and July.If we want to significantly reduce their number in the garden, we can brush off the tree tops in our gardens or allotments. Guniaki are lethargic in the morning and during the day. Slightly numb insects can be collected and dried. It is an excellent raw material for pig food or as a fish bait.

Similarly to May beetles, they can be fought in the larval stage as soon as they appear on the surface. They are pests because they nibble at the root systems of some perennials. Chemicals are used as a last resort, when they create a huge swarm, not to be combated by natural sprays or methods.
