The Caucasian geese (Arabis caucasica) belongs to the Brassicaceae family. It comes from the mountain regions of Europe and Central and Eastern Asia. This small, creeping perennial grows up to 30 cm in height. It grows luxuriantly, creating dense cascades showered with delicate white flowers in spring. In recent years, numerous varieties have appeared, also with pink and purple flowers. The Caucasian geese blooms in spring - from March to April.
This plant is very often used in the arrangement of alpine rockeries, where it works well between stones. It also looks great on walls, in gaps between stones, as well as in containers and pots. Together with the rock dragonfly, phlox phlox, evergreen garments and garden cranes, it forms the so-called spring five, i.e. a group of the most valuable rock plants.
Growing geese is extremely easy, which is why it is very popular among garden owners. When planting plants, remember that this species loves the sun and light. Plants are more decorative in direct sunlight, and flowering is more abundant. The soil for the geese should be loose, well-drained and well-drained.
The geese should be propagated by sowing seeds in boxes under covers in spring. Seedlings usually appear within 2-3 weeks. After 2-4 true leaves have been produced, the seedlings can be transplanted into individual pots.We plant seedlings permanently in the fall. The distance between the plants should be at least 40 cm. The geese does not like overdoing it, which is worth remembering when choosing a position for it.
Plants stay in one place for a long time, so you should rejuvenate them from time to time. At the same time, the goose can be multiplied. We buy the plant in spring and divide it into smaller parts, which we plant immediately in a permanent place.
The Caucasian geese is drought-resistant and does not tolerate overflow. However, long-term drying of the soil is not desirable. It does not require regular fertilization, it is enough to feed it with fertilizer for flowering plants before flowering.
Young plants should be weeded regularly. Over time, the geese grows rapidly and weeding is no longer necessary.
Lateral, rising shoots easily take root in the soil, thanks to which the plant can quickly cover a large area. Therefore, its growth should be controlled by trimming overgrown shoots.Pruning also promotes abundant flowering. In late autumn, trim the goose to a height of 3-4 cm. The plant is frost-resistant, but in regions with harsher winters, it is worth covering it with bark, tunic or agrotextile to protect it from possible frosts.
