In areas endangered by late frosts, cover the soil surface within the peach and apricot canopy with leaf or straw bedding. As a result, the soil around the trees heats up more slowly and flowering takes place up to 14 days later. Effect: flowers are less likely to freeze.
We cut the grapevine. The vines are pruned between mid February and mid April (depending on the growing area) about two weeks before bulky buds are formed. All annual shoots are pruned to obtain a suppository with two buds. We cover the strawberries. If we cover the strawberry crops with non-woven fabric or thin foil, the bushes will bear fruit a week earlier.
Vegetable
We prepare the beds for sowing. Sandy, dry soils can be prepared for sowing in advance. Clean the cultivation positions from bedding and plant remains for green fertilizer, loosen the soil deeply, enriching it with 1-3 liters of compost per m2 , then level the substrate and keep it under a fleece for sowing seeds from the beginning of March .
Last moment to harvest parsnips. Parsnips and parsley roots should be harvested gradually. As the temperature rises, the plants begin to form flower buds, and the quality of the roots suffers greatly. Of course, this does not apply to plants grown for seeds (which are harvested in summer).
We sow kohlrabi. We can grow kohlrabi for spring seedlings on a bright windowsill until mid-February. Seeds should be sown into special litter boxes for seedlings or peat containers to a depth of approx. 1 cm. After approx. 3 weeks, the seedlings should be fed with a small dose of liquid fertilizer.
We're exaggerating the mint. On a warm winter's day, we replant the mint. Dig the roots with a spade and divide them, then plant them, water them and cover them with compost.
Protection
We collect mummies. Remove the remaining dried fruit from fruit trees (apple, pear, plum, peach) (these are mummies - spores of brown rot of stone and pome trees).
Sprayers overview. We check sprayers, their tightness, pump operation. In case of failure, we replace defective elements.
Against aphids
Spray conifers with the oil preparation Promanal 60 AC against potholes and other species of aphids. Soil without plants. After the snow has descended in places where we want to keep the soil without vegetation for 6-8 months (cemetery, path, driveway, etc.), it is worth applying the Casoron 6.75 GR soil herbicide.
