Although we can easily buy fresh vegetables all year round, we often decide to make our own supplies. Permanent vegetables such as red beet, carrots, parsley and other root vegetables, potatoes and onions, garlic, leeks and head cabbage, for which the storage period is over three to twelve months, are suitable for storage.
Vault conditions play a very important role. Most of the above-mentioned vegetables should be stored at 0-3 ° C and fairly high air humidity of 90-95% (e.g. in a cellar in boxes with wet sand). The exception is onion and garlic, which should be stored in dry and ventilated places, where the air humidity is 60-70%.
Other species included in the group of medium-persistent vegetables, such as cruciferous vegetables, cucurbits and nightshades, may be stored under optimal conditions from several weeks to several months. Courgettes, pumpkins, melons, eggplants, peppers and tomatoes are best stored at temperatures between 4-10 / 12 ° C.
For pumpkins, the air humidity should be lower, in the order of 50-70%, while other species require higher humidity, in the range of 80-90% during storage. For storage, choose vegetables of late varieties, grown in lighter soils, supplied with an appropriate amount of phosphorus and potassium. When storing potatoes, remember to limit the access of light to the tubers (intensive greening of the tubers and accumulation of solanine in them).
- First, measure the lengths of the boards. Their dimensions are: 19x144x400 mm (2 pcs), 19x74x600 mm (2 pcs), 19x74x400 mm (7 pcs). You will also need a spacer bar with dimensions of 13x13x500 mm.
- Use a jigsaw to cut all boards to the required length.A stable work table ensures that the material is kept in a horizontal position and that the jigsaw works properly.
- The cut surfaces and their edges should be carefully smoothed. Drill both edges of the fascia board in two places and fasten with screws to the narrower side boards.
- Before fixing the bottom in seven boards, drill 4 holes at a distance of 1 cm from the edge. We screw the boards. The distance between them is maintained by a spacer bar.
-Carrying the box filled with fruit is made easier by the handles attached to both end boards.Place the handle in the center of the board, approximately 3 cm below the top edge.
