Blue flowers are rather rare in nature. It is all the more pleasure to recommend the blue-flowering Mexican genchio for cultivation, which blooms profusely from May until the first frost and works well both in field cultivation and in potted cultivation. Żeniszki comes from Mexico and is a perennial species. Unfortunately, in our climatic conditions it does not survive winters, therefore in Poland it is grown as an annual plant.
Depending on the variety, the bulb is 10 to 80 cm high. Inflorescences are in the form of dense umbels of blue or purple color. Less common are the varieties that bloom in pink-red or white. Żeniszka leaves are heart-shaped or oval.
Żeniszek prefers sunny to semi-shaded positions, but does not tolerate hot places.Growing is best in clay, but not too dense, fertile ground.
The seeds are grown from January to March at a temperature of approx. 20 ° C. We plant the seedlings at the end of May.
Żeniszek hates dry ground. Therefore, if the cultivation is carried out in a permeable substrate, and there is a rainless aura, the plants should be watered regularly.High varieties are regularly pruned.
Compact varieties can be grown as ground cover and even combined with annuals in pot arrangements.Tall and medium-tall varieties are perfect for background and group plantings in summer beds and are suitable for cut flowers.
Before the first frosts, we should transplant the zeniszka into a pot and grow it as an ordinary potted plant.
