Vitamin treasures of the garden

Table of contents

One of the most important vitamins is undoubtedly vitamin C.It is found almost exclusively in fruits and vegetables.100 grams of lemon contain approx. 50 milligrams, but 100 grams blackcurrant fruit is 183 milligrams.

Vitamin C increases the production of collagen in the body, which is essential for wound healing and fracture healing. It is helpful for colds and weakness, as it stimulates the immune system to fight diseases.Vitamin C also reduces the amount of bad cholesterol and is a powerful antioxidant, thanks to which it catches very harmful free radicals from the body. The demand for this vitamin increases sharply during stress and exercise.

Unfortunately, vitamin C is not stored in the body, so we should supply it regularly. We can of course use a synthetic equivalent, but a better and he althier way is to eat fresh fruit.

It is worth planting such trees and shrubs in the garden, the fruits of which contain the most vitamin C. Such plants include black currant, chokeberry, sea buckthorn and fruit rose. The fruits of wild rose and sea buckthorn contain the most vitamin C, but are not suitable for direct consumptionDue to greater difficulties with harvesting and processing these fruits, they are only used occasionally.

The best solution will be to grow blackcurrants, which you can additionally make excellent preserves, jams, juices and even tinctures. However, it is worth remembering that vitamin C is sensitive to heat treatment, the presence of light or even freezing. Therefore, the fruits picked straight from the bush have the greatest value.

Bushes with he althy fruits

The same is the case with raspberries or strawberries. They are easy to grow, and thanks to the long fruiting, we can have access to natural vitamins almost all year round. The first strawberries (like the Kamchatka berry) often appear at the turn of May and June.In July and August, currants and gooseberries bear fruit, and raspberries (e.g. the 'Polana' variety) can bear fruit almost until the end of October.

At a time when the stores are dominated by highly processed foods with a whole lot of preservatives, artificial flavors and dyes, planting only these few species of shrubs will be the best and easiest way to supplement the necessary dose of vitamins.
