Growing ground tomatoes

Table of contents

With my husband Janusz, we have been growing various vegetables for almost twenty years. Of course, this is for personal use, not for commercial purposes. Through trial and error, during this time we have worked out many ways to have a successful harvest.

Today I want to share the secrets of growingtomatoes . Many gardeners give up planting them after failing a tomato once or twice! Let no one give up. And we didn't succeed immediately.

Growing tomatoes

  • Tomatoes - both from the ground and those from under the foil - need light above all. In its absence, the plants will become thin and fragile.
  • I try to plant ground tomatoes away from potatoes. In this way, I protect them from potato blight. Sometimes, however, this or that disease infects the vegetables. My way to do this is one: plant some tomatoes into the ground, and some under the foil. Then one of them has to be successful, even despite unfavorable conditions.
  • To get good fruit, you need to remove wild shoots from the bushes.
  • When watering, be careful not to flood the whole bush, because tomatoes can rot from excess moisture.
  • I often open the foil so that the shrubs are aired.
  • I always buy seedlings from a reliable producer.

Recipe for the Garden - When and how to plant tomatoes

  1. Tomatoes grow best at temperatures between 21-28 ° C (day) and 16-18 ° C (night). When they are too warm, their growth stops, and in low temperatures they can rot. Therefore, seedlings to the ground should be planted after the "cold Zośka".
  2. Choose a cloudy or rainy day for planting. The soil should be weeded and nourished with multi-component mineral fertilizers (e.g. Azofoska, YaraMila Complex, CropCare).
  3. The seedling should be hardened and have 6-8 dark green leaves with the first cluster tied.
  4. Water the seedlings a few hours before planting. Then remove from the pots and plant in wells with a diameter larger than the pot in order not to damage the root ball. We plant the plants a little deeper than they grew and press down well with soil.
