Stylish and durable stone benches

Garden stone benches are very often unique works of art, the durability and immutability of which clearly contrasts with the passing of our plant world.Made of granite, bas alt, marble, sandstone or limestone, they amaze with their naturalness and often carefully refined details modeled on various styles, e.g. Renaissance, Classicist or Art Nouveau. In many cases they resemble sculptures that make our garden more attractive.

In summer, the bench is hidden among flowering plants, and in winter, it sleeps quietly under a blanket of snow for many days. So if we like to rest in the garden, it is worth having such a bench. This is an acquisition for years! Stone benches are distinguished by their solidity, durability and exceptional resistance to the damaging effects of the weather. Therefore, without any care, they can survive for decades and most often they gain in beauty over the years. Not like wooden benches …

A bench made of the same type of stone as the nearby path, stairs or terrace floor fits perfectly into the surroundings. The type of stone should be adapted to the style of the garden.Dark bas alt fits perfectly with a modern style, while marble looks best in a classic garden. Granite, distinguished by its varied structure and many different varieties, can decorate almost any garden.

Stone benches are made by masons. Most often they are unique pieces shaped according to the client's wishes. So their appearance depends on our requirements and the artistic skills of the craftsman. The place for placing the bench should be carefully selected, because it is not easy to move.If the bench is a work of art to admire, it is best placed behind a flower bed, on a lawn or against a green hedge.

The bench, used primarily for relaxation, should be placed next to a path, by a pond or in a sunny and quiet place by the house.

Stone in the garden under the magnifying glass

A bench that we can make by ourselves, of course, will not be any work of art.It is only to be a comfortable and functional piece of furniture that will serve us for many years. Its execution is not easy and requires strength, but satisfaction is guaranteed!

Natural stone seat

For such a stone bench we need: 21 blocks of stone in rows, dimensions: 50x25x15 cm, 3 blocks 25x25x15 cm (half elements), 1 package of 25 kg of ready-to-use mortar, 3 bags of frost-resistant adhesive for ceramic tiles, concrete for the foundation ( okay.0.2 m³), reinforcing steel to increase the stability of the concrete.

1. Place the blocks of the bench base in such a way as to obtain a picture of its actual size.

2. We prepare a concrete substrate with a thickness of 20 cm. The place should be chosen carefully. We set the level of the upper surface of the foundation equal to the surrounding ground. We assemble a box of boards with the dimensions of the foundation. First, fill it with concrete halfway up. We arrange the reinforcement bars and pour the rest of the concrete, which should bind for at least two days.

3. Place the lowest stone row on a leveling layer of mortar 2-3 cm thick. The blocks should be leveled so that the water can run off the surface freely.

4. The mortar layer causes the bench to be slightly raised above the level of the surrounding ground.

5. The tile adhesive can be applied in a layer thickness of 2-6 mm.For more uneven surfaces, it is better to use a masonry mortar.

6. After building the backrest and the top layer of the seat, leave the bench in peace for at least a week.
