Before starting fertilization, pay attention to the quality of the soil - fertile soils do not require as frequent nourishment as poor ones. This knowledge will allow us to choose the frequency of the treatment and its abundance exactly to the requirements of the plants planted in the soil.
The name of fertilizers covers all the means of improving the crops. They can be divided into:
- natural - manure, slurry, slurry, guano,
- mineral - rock flour,
- organic - compost, straw and other vegetable waste.
I supply my garden with mineral and organic preparations due to the lack of access to others.
Character
Fertilizers come in the form of pellets, granules, powder, liquid, sticks and tablets.
Supply terms
The season of fertilization is important.Spring is best for feeding, when the plants are growing intensively and the soil is already thawed. There are also autumn preparations, the composition of which prepares the crops for winter dormancy.
Measure
Do not exceed the dose recommended on the package. A small kitchen scale is very useful. It is thanks to her that I accurately measure the amount recommended by the manufacturer.
Application
I usually apply fertilizers with a watering can, seeder or manually with gloves. The most important thing is their even distribution - when accumulated, they can disturb the development of the plant, or even destroy it.I use fertilizer sticks on steep slopes. I use preparations intended for specific species only for them. Other plants may react negatively to their composition.
I try to feed my crops before rain or water them abundantly after applying the preparation. If the agent does not dissolve quickly, it can cause plant death, e.g. yellow spots on the lawn.
I never fertilize a wet plant as it can stick to it and damage it.After using any type of soil preparations, mix them with the top layer of earth. Then they will dissolve faster, and in the case of natural fertilizers, it will reduce the loss of ammonia. When a plant requires immediate help, I use liquid preparations that are absorbed by it the fastest.
Storage
I keep the fertilizers in a dry, dark place with a positive temperature, in tightly closed original packaging.I mark the species of fertilized plants, dates and doses in the calendar. Thanks to this, I can provide plants with nutrients on a regular basis, without worrying about them
over-fertilization.
