“The preparation is worth spraying especially on the bottom of the leaf. The treatment is best done in the morning. " - Alicja Dominik
Rhododendrons and azaleas are brilliantly flowering shrubs. Unfortunately, I cannot always enjoy their beautiful view in my garden. From time to time, plants are attacked by pests or disease.Fortunately, I have several proven ways. I decided to share them with the readers of "Recipe for the Garden".
Rhododendrons should be planted in partial shade, and azaleas - in a sunny spot. Shrubs grown in inappropriate conditions will be weaker and more vulnerable to attack by fungi or pests.
This is the most dangerous disease of rhododendrons. This usually manifests itself by curling the leaves along the shoot. The infection spreads easily. The shrub usually stops growing. Unfortunately, the attacked plant cannot always be saved. You cannot plant other rhododendrons, firs or pines in its place.
A white, powdery coating may appear on azalea leaves from July to autumn. The fight against mildew involves spraying the plants several times every 10-14 days.
The cause of this disease is usually too high pH of the medium (pH above 6). In my opinion, the best solution is to dig a bush and replace the soil with one with a suitable pH (4.5-5.5).
The presence of this beetle on the rhododendron, we can be sure, when the edges of the leaf are sinusly gnawed. The easiest way to get rid of an intruder is to simply catch individual individuals. This pest is most active at night. I got rid of it easily by placing boards under the attacked bush. Opuchlak used them for his day hideout.
It was enough to lift the wood and catch the beetles with the most ecological method. The larvae are said to be more difficult to fight. I read about how to get rid of them with nematodes, but I haven't used it myself.
I wish all readers that their rhododendrons will be beautiful and he althy this season.
