Until recently, organic fertilizers were the main source of nutrients for crops. Now, however, they are increasingly replaced by artificial fertilizers, much easier to use.The use of organic fertilization in the garden brings measurable benefits: in addition to the full composition of macro- and microelements, it improves physical, chemical and biological properties soil.
The organic substance brought in with them improves the structure of light and heavy soils, retains water and prevents leaching of minerals, thanks to which mineral fertilization is better used. Its buffer properties cannot be overestimated, as they eliminate significant changes in the chemical composition of the substrate, e.g. resulting from excessive fertilization or inadequate pH.
Organic fertilizers also favor the development of microflora. Forest plants react particularly positively to the organic substance, e.g. the greater mole, European moth, forest plant, and species grown on sites poorly matched to their requirements.
Of the numerous fertilizers made from organic materials, manure, compost, green manure and earthworms made of vermicompost are the most commonly used in gardens.Manure is used in late summer and autumn - after scattering, it digs up and mixes with the soil.
Compost can be used at different times of the year. It can be produced in your own garden, using, for example, leftovers from the kitchen. The so-called plastic thermo-composters of different capacity.
