Practical Gardener: time for chrysanthemums

Table of contents

The greatest advantage of Dendrathema grandiflora chrysanthemums is their late autumn flowering period. In addition to this significant advantage over other species, they also delight with the abundance of flowering, as well as the variety and vividness of flower colors.

The great potential of them is shown by the history of their breeding: despite over 2.5 thousand years of its duration (about chrysanthemum breeding, started in the Far East, already mentioned by Confucius), these plants still surprise with new shapes and colors of baskets .

For gardeners and plant lovers, the most important thing is the versatility of their use: from garden beds to cut flower arrangements. For several years, chrysanthemums have successfully decorated balconies and terraces. Both small-flowered and large-flowered varieties are used for their decoration, which allows to break with the stereotype of chrysanthemums as cemetery plants.

Their cultivation in containers is not problematic.Blooming chrysanthemums, because they are most often available for sale, can be simply put into a decorative container, but this requires sacrifice more attention to irrigation.

Since the plants are sold in small, for their size, pots dry quite quickly. This requires daily control of the substrate moisture and, if necessary, watering. Transplanting plants into larger containers greatly facilitates their care and prolongs flowering.
