Civic debates will be held in four cities (Gdańsk, Bydgoszcz, Lublin, Wrocław) in autumn, during which everyone will be able to comment on activities aimed at helping pollinators. The innovative formula of the debates will enable the voice of citizens to participate in the work on an expert strategic document of importance for the fate of bees throughout the countryThe strategy will be a comprehensive document addressing the current challenges related to the protection of pollinating insects.

Therefore, an important element of its creation will be legal and substantive analyzes of current regulations and provisions that may affect the situation of bees. Consultations with beekeepers and farmers, international consultations of similar documents that exist in other EU countries, as well as analyzes of scientific research on pollinators, including the results of the Two-year Great Pollinator Census are also of key importance. The document will be created in the first half of 2022-2023, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of the Environment were invited to cooperate in its preparation.

About the "Adopt a bee" campaign

The "Adopt a Bee" campaign is the largest crowdfunding campaign in terms of the number of participants. For 4 years, 30,000 people took part in it. So far, thanks to "Adopt a Bee", 100 "five-star" hotels for wild pollinating insects have been created throughout the country, and dozens of others are being built in private gardens, schools and kindergartens.

Adopt a bee is also an effort to ensure that there are as few substances harmful to bees as possible in the environment, including the most toxic pesticides. In response to the mass poisoning of millions of bees in the commune Wschowa, thanks to thousands of people who took part in the action, it was possible to rebuild the bee population in this region, and for the new bees to live there really well and safely, a flower meadow was created, over 250 trees and honey shrubs were planted.

Local farmers and representatives of local government have undergone training in the care of greenery and cultivation of crops in a bee-friendly manner.Local activities are also accompanied by nationwide projects - including testing crops attractive to bees in terms of poisonous pesticides and scientific studies that show not only the problems of bees in Poland, but also why and how they can be best helped by changing Polish legislation accordingly.

Scientific research on pollinating insects, i.e. the Great List of Pollinators, took place in cooperation with scientists and naturalists all over Poland.Part of the research is carried out in an innovative model of civic science, thanks to which everyone can take part in the research and help scientists. So far, almost 4,000 people have engaged in the project, which means the research has had a reach that was impossible to achieve with traditional research conducted by a small group of scientists.
