Poles are supporters of an attractive and safe holiday on the plot

The lockdown period was a challenge for everyone, but the hardest one was for people locked in flats in city centers. The longing for nature made Poles look for alternative forms of spending time outdoors, which would not only be attractive, but also safe.

A dream to come true

The survey "Wypoczynek na plot" commissioned by Castorama Polska shows that most of the respondents are currently interested in purchasing a plot of land, especially women (68%), younger people up to 50 years old (70% of respondents on average), residents of large ( 71%) and big cities (69%).These data clearly show that having their own plot in an attractive location has become a dream of many Poles, regardless of age -as many as 44% of respondents aged 18-29 expressed a definite desire to own such a space. This is a completely new phenomenon- until recently, a recreational plot was synonymous with the rest of the older generation.

The respondents were also asked about their dream location. The answers clearly show thatthe most popular are plots lying on the water-by a lake or sea. This location was indicated by 58% of all respondents, except that 20-year-olds dream mainly about the lake district, and women about the seaside.

Is resting on the plot attractive?

Castorama asked her respondents how they rated the attractiveness of spending time on the plot. It turned out that after weeks of closure in four corners, when many Poles had to combine remote work with taking care of their children and learning them online, this form of rest is attractive for 95% of surveyed families with children. However, this does not change the fact that for people without children, the opportunity to spend time on their own piece of land is also very attractive - 82% of respondents.

Depending on gender, the very purpose of staying on the plot is perceived slightly differently- for women it is mainly a place of mental rest and spending time in a pleasant way, for men - an asylum, but and a barbecue area.

How do we spend time on the plot?

Currently, Poles primarily associate spending time on a plot with rest(44% of respondents), relaxing in the bosom of nature (33%), having a barbecue, often with the family and / or friends (28% of all respondents), and less often they perceive them in the context of work and growing vegetables and fruit -this is the main change that has occurred in recent years in the way the plot is used.

It is worth noting thatthe way of using the plot changes with age For example, for 35% of 20- and 30-year-olds, the plot is a barbecue area and this is the main advantage of having it. In addition, the youngest treat it as a meeting place with their loved ones. On the other hand, older respondents look at the plot more through the prism of contact with nature. For 40-year-olds, the plot provides a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. However, for over 40% of people over 40, the plot is a place where they willingly grow their own vegetables or fruit.

"Weeks of home insulation made us realize how difficult it is for everyone to be locked in four walls. It turned out that, regardless of the situation, each of us needs contact with nature. Many people found such an asylum in home gardens or recreational plots, which during the last difficult months turned out to be a great place to rest safely and experienced their renaissance. Our observations also confirmed the purchasing decisions of customers. We decided to take a closer look at their needs and see how they perceive this form of spending free time, whether they still associate it primarily with gardening, or choose other forms of activity. The results of the research we commissioned clearly show that the plots have become attractive for all age groups. Thanks to them, we can meet the need for contact with nature, rest with our loved ones, spending time with friends "- emphasizes Beniamin Schön, Director of Client and Digital Affairs at Castorama Polska.

- "We decided to go a step further and help our clients fulfill their dreams of owning their own piece of land - to celebrate the 23rd birthday of Castorama in Poland, we organized a lottery in which there are three holiday homes with plots to be won, located in the most attractive parts of Poland - in Pomerania, Warmia and the Beskids. I cordially invite you to take part in it. " - adds Schön.

The presented results clearly prove that most Poles dream of a piece of their own land where they can safely spend time, meet family and closest friends, or just take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although this need has increased during the pandemic, we can assume that it will stay with us for longer, and the wide range of possibilities offered by this form of recreation will certainly translate into growing interest in it in the coming months. Some of us can fulfill their dream of a plot now, thanks to Castorama's birthday campaign.
