PiO: questions for the spring

Sowing flowers in the meadow

Q: Can I buy seed mixtures for a flower meadow and how often do I need to mow it?

O: For some time now, you can buy ready-made seed mixtures for your flower meadow. They are available in garden stores, which apart from seedlings also sell seeds. The largest selection is usually in the company's stores of the Seed Headquarters.

The mixtures are adapted to different soils. Other plant species grow on light, dry and sandy, rich and moist or completely wet soils. The number of mowing depends on the type of meadow: dry mowing once a year - in autumn, fresh on moist soils - twice, in June and August.

Nepenthes care

P: I bought myself a pitcher. Should I catch insects for this plant?

A: Indeed, it is an insectivorous plant. In nature, pitchers are filled to one-third with water enriched with digestive enzymes that break down incoming insects.Plants growing in our homes do not need to be fed with insects. It is enough for them to add some liquid fertilizer to the watering water once a month.

Nepenthes require high air humidity, a minimum temperature of 20ºC throughout the year and systematic watering with soft, lukewarm water. The plant does not withstand the drying of the root ball, also dry air is deadly for it.It grows best in glass cases.

Caring for a little-known variety of acacia

P: Recently I bought an acacia called "Armata Mimosa". Unfortunately, I have not found a description of this genre in any professional literature. So I have the following questions: Which land should I use? What position do I have to provide for my acacia tree? How to fertilize and water it? When and how to cut? Can it be sprayed?

O:Armed acacia Acacia cannon comes from Australia. It belongs to acidophilic plants and should grow in a substrate with a pH of 4.5-5.5. It grows up to 1 m in height in a pot. It blooms in winter and early spring with yellow inflorescences. In summer, it likes the sun and warmth, it can then be exposed to the air.During this time, it should be watered abundantly with soft water, and from March to August, every 2 weeks, the shrub should be fed with multi-component fertilizers for acidophilic plants.

In winter, acacia should be spent in a bright and cool room, 6-10ºC, during this time it should be watered sparingly.Every year after flowering, it is worth shortening its shoots, which will stimulate the plant to branch out. After selecting the strongest shoot, acacia can be led like a tree.Every 2 years, after flowering, we replant it to a new soil.

Another species of this genus, namely the silver acacia Acacia dealbata, has leaves composed of many small leaves that look like mimosa leaves that are distantly related to acacia.Due to this similarity in trade, acacia is often called mimosa. The leaves of the real mimosa fold when touched, the acacia - not.
