Blooming primroses in spring are one of the most popular potted plants with decorative flowers. Most of the varieties come from our native species - Primula, the stemless Primula acaulis - found in Europe and Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, due to its excavation for ornamental purposes, this species is in danger of extinction. It has become a fact in Poland, where the species is considered extinct, but work is underway on its reintroduction into Polish flora. The first site of the reintroduced primrose is in the Lubelskie Province.
The stemless primrose grows up to 10-30 cm. It has obovate leaves collected in a rosette. In spring, from March to May, flowers appear in the center of the rosette. The starting species has white-cream flowers with a yellow eye, in cultivars the color range of flowers is huge - from white, through yellow, orange, pink, red, to blue and purple. Many varieties have two-color flowers, and recently the varieties with original flower structure: full or with interestingly modified petals - curly or jagged. The great variety of primrose varieties means that these plants are more and more widely used.
The origin of plants along with the period of their development determine their cultivation requirements. As a temperate plant flowering in early spring, primrose has specific thermal requirements. The optimal temperature for flowering plants is around 13 ° C, so it is easy to say that most apartments are much too warm for them. This has a direct impact on their decorative value - first of all, it significantly shortens flowering. In order to enjoy the beauty of primula in the apartment for as long as possible, apart from providing them with a fairly cool temperature, they should have a constantly moist substrate (not excessively wet) and a well-lit place (in winter and spring).
Although the stemless primrose is extremely popular as a plant for interior decoration, it is also more and more often used as a spring arrangement of balconies and terraces, and even as a bedding perennial. For example, plants that have faded in the apartment may find their way to the rebates. Choose a semi-shaded place with moist, fresh soil. As potted varieties are not always frost-resistant enough, it is best to plant them in a quiet, warm, wind-sheltered location.Primroses can withstand temperatures close to cool temperatures without any problems, they should have a constantly moist substrate (not excessively wet) and a well-lit place (in winter and spring).

Primroses can withstand temperatures close to 0 ° C without any problems, even during flowering. For this reason, they are perfect as seasonal container plants. You can create multi-colored compositions from them, combining them with other early spring plants. Pansies, daisies, fragrant meadows, hellebores, hydrangeas and various species of bulb plants are very good company for them.
The versatility of primroses manifests itself not only in their suitability for home or garden decoration, but also in their use as edible plants.Leaves and flowers are suitable for consumption, which, like the flowers of nasturtium and pansies , will be a sophisticated decoration for salads and other dishes.
