Planting bulbs and tubers
October is the last month of planting tulip bulbs, hyacinths, sapphires, iris, xia, garlic and crocus bulbs. With the onset of frost, when the soil is slightly frosty, the beds with lilies, hyacinths and daffodils must be covered with a layer of straw, dry leaves, shredded bark or straw manure.
Sowing seeds of annual plants
This month you can sow the seeds of such species as: sea dragonfly, marigold, cornflower, purple wolf. Thanks to this, the plants will start vegetation earlier in spring and bloom faster.
Buying and planting roses
The soil for rose cultivation should be loosened to a depth of 60 cm and mixed with well-composted manure or compost. Before planting, the roots of the roses are shortened to a length of 20-25 cm and soaked in water with the addition of fungicides. The bushes are planted so deep that, after treading the ground and watering abundantly, the spot of budding is level with the soil surface or 2-3 cm underground. The advantage of planting shrubs in autumn is their easier and better rooting than in spring.
