Narcissi are one of the most famous and popular bulb flowers. They are used to create flower beds in gardens and green areas, but also for driving in pots and for cut flowers.
Narcissus, depending on the species and variety, can reach 15 to 50 cm in height. In spring, flowers develop at the top of the shoots, always at right angles to the stem.Among other bulbous plants, narcissus flowers have a distinctive structure. They consist of six petals and an additional tube, the so-called skirt.
This unusual decoration of narcissus flowers was made of expanded stamens. In some species and varieties the cap is small, barely visible, while in others it can be very impressive.
It is often contrasting - orange, pink or red, while the petals are always white or yellow. Fragrant flowers are an additional advantage of some species and varieties of narcissus.
Due to the huge number and wide variety, the varieties of narcissus have been divided into 12 groups. Their names are often derived from species:
1.Trumpet with very long(longer than the petals) cups.
2.Big-cup- in these varieties the caps are shorter than the petals.
3.Small-cupped- the cup is shorter than 1/3 of the length of the petals.
4.Complete .
5.Triandruswith a few flowers on the stem.
6.Cyclamineuswith petals folded back and a long, narrow cup.
7.Jonquilla- they have several always yellow flowers on the stem.
8.Tazetta- with short-cupped flowers gathered on a sprout.
