Beans are the undisputed leader among legumes. It is a plant valued primarily for its high nutritional value. It is a very important source of protein, vitamins and mineral s alts. The green bean pods are also low in calories and easy to digest. The vegetable is suitable for direct consumption and processing - for example, canning or freezing.
- Beans are a thermophilic plant, sensitive to frost. We sow in the second half of May.Dwarf asparagus varieties can be successfully sown every 10-14 days until mid-July.This will extend the harvest period.
- We do not grow plants in the same place every year due to the increased risk of infestation by diseases and pests. Recommended is min. 4-year crop rotation. The beans are best planted after cabbage, cauliflower, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and potatoes.
- Sunny position, sheltered from cold winds.Fertile, humus soil.
- Beans do not have too high water requirements, but their deficiency may cause flowers and buds to fall, and as a result, lower quality (more fibrous) pods and lower yields may be obtained.
- It is a plant sensitive to weeds in the initial growth period. When weeding, however, be careful not to damage the delicate roots, which regenerate poorly.
- Green beans are best grown in the first year after manure, and dry seeds in the second and third. We use fertilizers rich in microelements, but chloride-free. We limit nitrogen supply - legume plants cooperate with symbiotic bacteria that have the ability to fix nitrogen from the air.
- We start picking green beans from mid-July every 3-5 days as the pods mature.Preferably in the early morning or evening hours. We do not pick the pods after the rain while they are still wet.
- Beans for dry grain harvest when the leaves turn yellow and fall off, the pods dry up, wrinkle, and the seeds inside them "rattle".
Bean varieties differ mainly in stem height and application. There are asparagus and dry seed varieties.Dwarf varieties of short growth and bushy form mature more evenly and are preferred in large-scale cultivation due to the possibility of mechanization of production. Tic varieties are more common in small home gardens because they require supports and the maturation of the pods is more extended over time.
Among the green beans, we can find varieties that differ in the color of the pods - green, yellow, purple. Green-brown varieties surpass others in terms of vitamin content, yield size and even durability in transport.
Characteristic for violet beans is that they turn green after cooking. It is recommended primarily for current consumption.Varieties for dry seeds differ in grain size and color (white and red).
- 'Esterka' - an early variety, very fertile. It grows up to 45-50 cm, has a compact, bushy habit. Pods 13-15 cm long, green, straight, without constrictions, smooth, fibrous, embedded in the middle part of the bush. They keep their consumer value for a long time. The variety is resistant to anthracnose, tolerant to ring bacteriosis.Tolerates drought well. Intended for direct consumption, freezing and preserving.
- 'Nomad' - a late dwarf variety. Dark green pods, 12-13 cm long, about 10 mm in diameter, simple, very tasty. Intended for direct consumption and processing. Resistant to bacteriosis and anthracnose.

Light yellow pods, straight, without constrictions, 12-14 cm long, round in cross-section, fleshy, fibrous and tasty, embedded in the middle part of the plant. Intended for direct consumption and for freezing.Resistant to anthracnose, highly tolerant to ring bacteriosis.Plants are not very sensitive to unfavorable weather conditions.
- 'Sonesta' - dwarf variety, medium early, very fertile. Plants of medium height, with an upright habit.Yellow pods, 12-13 cm long, medium thickness, round in cross-section, straight, fibrous, clustered in the upper part. Especially recommended for processing (preserving, freezing), but also for direct consumption.Resistant to bacteriosis and anthracnose.Suitable for accelerated cultivation for early harvest under cover.
- 'Galopka' - mid-early variety. Plants tall (50-55 cm), bushy with pods embedded in the upper part.Light cream pods, straight, without constrictions, slightly flattened, 12-14 cm long, fiberless, very tasty.Intended for direct consumption.
