Without regular mowing, you can't dream of a nice lawn. Cutting speeds up the emergence of new stalks and thus promotes the thickening of the turf. During the period of intensive grass growth, i.e. from mid-April to the end of June, we mow the lawn even twice a weekOutside this period, mow once a week, and even less often during dry weather, because in such conditions the grass grows slower.A short cut exposes the turf to burn, causing the lawn to turn yellow.
We usually mow the last time in October. We mow the grass to a height of 4-4.5 cm.After a long break, caused e.g. by our vacation, first shorten the blades by half, and only in the next cycle (after about a week) to the target height of 4 centimeters.
In order for the turf to develop beautifully and he althily and maintain a nice, juicy green color throughout the year, it must be watered regularly - especially from June to the end of August, i.e. in summer. We should be vigilant especially when pressed grass, e.g. stepped on with a shoe, does not return to its original vertical position, even though several hours have passed.During the season, the lawn should be irrigated with 10 liters of water per square meter.
On the other hand, after a long rainfall, the turf may be flooded. If the puddles do not soak up the ground, the water is not draining well. Unfortunately, this has disastrous consequences for the grass, because in wet soil the roots cannot breathe, which ultimately causes the leaves to turn yellow. Therefore, it is important to carefully prepare the substrate before sowing the grass.Water remains on compacted soils, so before sowing, the substrate must be carefully loosened by digging it to a depth of about 15-20 cm or, writing more descriptively, for non-caking layers.
In particularly difficult soils, it is worth considering professional drainage.Sometimes point wells are enough, but sometimes you have to run linear drainage to drain excess water to e.g. a ditch or a rainwater sewage system.Note, do not water the lawn during hot weather between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.!
The purpose of fertilization is to provide the grass with the necessary minerals that are removed with the cut grass. Both deficiency and excess of food are harmful to grass, so it is best to use fertilizers dedicated to a specific type of turf. In early summer, it is best to use fast-acting nitrogen fertilizers, which stimulate the grass to grow and give the leaves a nice color.Remember that the lawn often needs to be mowed regularly. At the turn of August and September, we use fertilizers with an increased content of phosphorus and potassium.
A semicircular spade is also useful for planting crocuses on the lawn or repairing turf (cutting trees growing out of root suckers or removing unevenness)Cut the turf into a cross or the letter H, spread it to the sides and after cutting the seedling, removing the soil and planting, fold it again. After a few weeks, there is no trace after the incision.
Even a small garden becomes optically larger if part of its surface is taken up by the lawn. Every 100 m2 of grassland produces oxygen for about 10 people per year. In addition, grass increases the humidity of the air in the environment.
A classic lawn has a square or rectangular surface. On the other hand, irregular, gently undulating forms make the garden less patterned, more intriguing.Traditional ornamental lawn is established in exposed places, but not exposed to trampling. The ornamental lawn has a beautiful green color, but grows slowly.
It should be remembered that this type of turf is not intended for intensive use, so playing football with children may not be good for him. In shady places, special mixtures of shade-loving grasses are sown.Parsley and turf daredevils are the most effective. There are also sports mixtures, mixtures for a recreational lawn, and meadow mixtures.
